History

Prologue||

This story begins in a small tribe located at the base of wyvern mountain 239 years ago, where a young girl about the age of 7 found the large shimmering egg of an unknown creature. The girl brought it straight to the village shaman, who had told her that she had been blessed by the gods with a powerful and very rare gift; an echon egg, something highly uncommon or even rare to the area in which they lived. He stated that she alone had been given the power to be the next guardian of Rahasia, a shrine and special hoard of riches that the tribe has offered up to their patron goddess. The young girl cared for the egg for a full year, eagerly awaiting it's hatching. Then, during the celebration of the winter solstice, the creature emerged.

The story ||

       I poked my nose out of my warm and safe shelter for the first time, an unfamiliar sensation touching my nose and through my body as I emerged, a bright light blinded me. I found myself let out a chirp of alarm, unsure of what I was getting myself into. Everything was new, what would the world be like? I didn't think much about it- what was there to think? At first, honestly, all I COULD think was "wow this doesn't seem safe maybe I should go back." Unfortunately, it seemed that the more I moved the more my shelter seemed to break, so I didn't have much of a choice anymore. Time to go into the unknown. My vision wasn't quite right, or at least I hoped it wasn't because I couldn't make anything out in the beginning. It did, however, clear up and I soon saw the one I presumed to be my mother. Immediately I ran, well, waddled, up to her. The world was cold and I was hungry, so maybe the caregiver would feed me and shelter me from the elements. I quickly noticed there were many more of me around, staring and baring their teeth. Maybe that was a sign of acceptance! I think I should try too.

       The young echon had hatched at last, the tribe celebrating at the little beast. They smiled and laughed as they watched the young creature bound clumsily towards Ausra and into her arms as she knelt. "It appears that it knows you are its owner, Ausra." The tribe shaman said, his wrinkled face showing nothing but a beaming sense of pride and joy for the young girl. "Friend." Ausra corrected. "I do not own this, but instead he will be my companion." She added on, petting the young, shaking beast. "Friend." The shaman corrected, giving a small nod. "Someone please get our new friend something to eat, and something to wrap it in. The poor creature is shaking." The shaman yelled, raising a staff and pointing it towards to young teenagers, who frantically nodded and ran in separate directions. Moments later, they came with a plate of various assortments ranging from bugs to fruits, and a bearfur blanket to wrap him in. "And what do you plan on calling your creature, Ausra?

       Mithras, Mithras, Mithras. They seemed to really like that word, I like it too. They didn't stop saying it, either. It was an endless chant and it was honestly somewhat scary. They gave me a warm fur, though, that I could bury myself in. I liked it, it was warm and safe, like my shelter! They seemed to speak for a long time, but wow am I tired. I think I'll fall asleep now, I think it's safe. Mother will protect me too, I know she will. She loves me, I can feel it already! We can have more fun later I bet, but right now I think.... I'll just....sleeeeeeep.

     "Don't worry little one, I'll protect you. I know that one day, you'll do the same for me too."

"Mithras, lets go! We're going to be late!" Ausra called. It had been 3 years already since the hatching, and Mithras turned out to grow at a rapid rate. Although not completely full-grown, the echon was rather large in size and could easily carry the girl that was called his companion. Today was the day he would finally get his mission, today was the day that he and Ausra would do what they have been destined to do. Or so they were told, at least. In complete honesty, Mithras wasn't quite sure what the job would actually be. "I'm coming Ausra, I just woke up." The grumpy echon grumbled, stretching out like a cat and stretching out his ever-growing wings before prancing about.  "I wonder what they'll have us actually do! They always said it was important," Ausra murmured excitedly, petting the soft blue fur of her companion. Mithras let out a pleased purr of sorts, nodding his head in agreement. "I'm not entirely sure, but I bet it'll be awesome!"

As they came up to their destination, the beating of their hollow drums echoed through the sky. The chants and excited hollers sang in unison with the beat, and the stomping of their tribal dance seemed to shake the ground. Mithras had only seen this ceremony similar to this one other time before, with the death of a newborn child. "Are they going to sacrifice us?" Mithras asked nervously, pressing closer to Ausra. Whether it was to feel protected or to protect her, he couldn't quite tell. Ausra, however, shook her head and rolled her silver eyes. "Of course not, silly, don't worry we'll be okay."

With that extra reassurance, Mithras and Ausra processed in, their heads held high. A path was made for them, two sides parting in the middle to reveal the shaman, who was waiting for their arrival. "Welcome, young ones. Today is a special day for you and the tribe, I'm sure you are as eager as the rest of us." He said, shooting a small, wrinkled smile. Ausra nodded frantically, her eyes glistening with only excitement. Mithras, however, grew slightly more unsure by the second. He wasn't sure if he would be able to handle this job, and he didn't even know what it was just yet.

The elder tapped his staff twice, the tribe immediately quieting down and focusing on him. "Today is the day the gift of the gods can start to begin his training. With his.. friend... they will undertake an important job and fulfill our prayers."

Mithras felt his excitement rising, imagining himself as a warrior or being worshipped as a god. Ausra picked up on his daydream, viewing his silly expression with disappointment. To not draw attention to themselves, Ausra simply bumped Mithras, waking him up out of his fantasies.

"The role, however, will need training. You will be trained in combat by out best warriors, trained in hunting by the best hunters. You will be able to perfect your power, Mithras, and use it with precision. You will be guardians of our people and guardians of the shrine, take pride in your jobs. You will be the first in what will hopefully be a long line of protectors."

-----------------

Ausra and Mithras underwent rigorous training, 7 years of training however had wielded them into a team, able to function with one another without speaking. Mithras was given a vial of water to wear around his neck, allowing him to always have a weapon to protect the two.
