Mithras spread his large blue wings, each feather spread out and catching the frigid air beneath him. It had been awhile since he had left the cave, his food stores were low and he didn’t want to over eat the fish that lived in the lake. So, he decided to get out. After all, a little bit of downtime from guarding the hard couldn’t hurt, could it? Few dared to venture to where he lived, and he hadn’t seen another visitor in quite some time. He pondered what may have been if he had simply left at this point, leaving all that he had cared about behind to start fresh. The thought alone caused a bubble of guilt to burn in his chest, how could he think such a thing?

The large echon frowned, turning his sights to the ground below. Mithras noted that there was brief movement below, most likely from hunters. He was well shrouded in the sky, giving him some comfort. Nevertheless, he decided to fly a bit further away from human civilization; he hadn’t realized he had already flown this far. So, he decided to hunt in the nearby woods. Peace and quiet would be found there, after all. As he landed, his large wings flapping dust all around the area, easily alerting any prey of his presence that may be surrounding the clearing. Nonetheless he continued his hunt further down, successfully managing in creating a small hoard of prey. As he was preparing to fly back, though, something caught his attention.

The distant screams of a woman, followed by the shrill cry of a child was heard. Alarmed and slightly concerned for the safety of whomever had screamed. Mithras was there in the blink of an eye, widening his eyes as he faces a lone child, the woman nowhere to be found. He wasted no time as he took to the skies, scanning the area in hopes of spotting the caregiver. Nothing.

Not wanting the child to be left alone for too long, Mithras sighed and picked up said child, who looked to be only about 2 at most. “I must find you a home,” he began, heading back to the human tribe he had flown over prior to coming to the woods. It didn’t take long for him to be spotted, though, and they didn’t take to him being near them too friendly. “Wait, wait a second,” he tried to protest, however they refused to let him land. In their defense, a large beast covered in blood swooping near where they make their base isn’t exactly the best first impression. It didn’t take long for Mithras to quit, fearing for the safety of the child. “Looks like you’re coming with me.” Mithras grumbled bitterly, flying back to grab some of his hoard of prey before making his way back to his cave. He set the child down in the middle where she couldn’t get hurt.

It took Mithras about two years to adjust to the little kid, slowly growing close to her. He never did find out what happened to her mother, but he has sworn to protect her.

Mithras called the kid Makana, or Maka for short, meaning gift. He wasn't much of a fan of her at first, the small child proving to be more of a nuisance than anything. However, Mithras has grown to enjoy the company, seeing her as a gift. He knows that she won't stay forever, and one day she may want to leave him, however for the time being he has decided to love her and teach her of his tribe. He does have selfish hopes of her one day carrying on the tribal traditions and passing them down, growing into the matriarch of the new tribe. Nonetheless, he loves Maka and treats her like royalty, only giving her the best.
